監督：原作は小学校が舞台ですが、アニメーションで見せるなら、小学生よりはカッコいい高校生で描きたいなと思い変更しました

監督：私が作画出身ということもあり
肉体美をちゃんと描いて映像化したいという思いがありました。
そしてテーマとして決めたのが「水泳×友情×上半身」。これを推していきたいです。
Director: I’m the one drawing so, I want to perfectly show physical beauty.
Also, the theme we decided on is ‘Swimming x Friendship x Upper Body’. That’s what I want to conclude on.

監督：いわゆるスポコンものではなく、水泳を通じて生まれる絆、青春ドラマを大事にしていきた。
五人の心模様をしっかり描いていけたらと。
Director: So to speak, it’s not a sport serie, but a show where bounds are born from swimming, youth drama is important in this work.
-友情はどう絡むのでしょう？
How does the friendship develops?
監督：仲良しごっこではなく、水泳をする中であいつには負けたくないという
荒々しい感情がぶつかりあうドラマも描いていけたらなと思っています。
お前しか見ていない！みたいな熱い感じはぜひ出していきたいです。
Director: They aren’t pretending to get along, when swimming, I want to show their strong desire to win. I’d like to get the ‘You’re the only one I consider!’(in competition, can’t phrase this one correctly) kind of feeling.

監督：実は真琴たちが今泳ぎたいという気持ちは、主人公・遥の泳ぎに惹かれてという部分もあるんです。
だから遥の泳ぎは魅力的に描かなければいけないですね。
Director: Actually, Makoto and the others’ desire to swim comes from Haruka. They were fascinated by his swimming. So I need to show that Haruka’s swimming is indeed fascinating.
-遥ってどんな奴なんですか？
What kind of guy is Haruka?
監督：外見はカッコよくてクール。
が、人としてちょっと欠けている部分があるというか水以外に執着をもっていません。
でも、その変わったところ、魅力だと思います。
His outward appearance is cool and attractive. But on the inside he’s more a broken person, and he feels attachment only to swimming. But that unusual side of him is his charm, I think.
-5人の「体」の描き分けにも特色があるのでしょうか？
Are there special features for distinguishing each of the boys’ bodies?
監督：もちろんです。骨格だったり、アバラの骨ばっている感じだったり、個々のパーツ、手の大きさ、などを注意して描くようにしています。
Director: Of course. There’s the skeletal structure, the rib cage’s bones, each characters’ parts, the size of their hands and the like. We were careful when when drawing them.
-アバラ！最高です！パーカーから見え隠れする筋肉は美しい
Ribs! They are the best! The muscles hidden by the parka are beautiful
監督：私もアバラは大好きです。
Director: I love ribs as well
-今年の夏は腹斜筋に燃えるぞッッ！！
